David Leeland, Founder and CEO of Guardian Angel Defense Systems, founded the company after a friend's experience with domestic violence, which shaped both the product's design and its mission to prevent home and business invasions while protecting vulnerable individuals.

In 2008, David began a two-year study of M-TAC hand-to-hand combat under Ray Sims of Vero Beach, whose background in diplomatic security shaped David's direction toward self-preservation instruction. David went on to train in Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) with the Gainesville Police Department, completed advanced training with the SCARS Institute (developer of Navy SEAL training for the Department of Defense), and trained in Krav Maga for anti-abduction and hostage situations under an Israeli Special Forces instructor. He is a member of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and founder of the nonprofit Women's Self Defense Centers of America.
